Whistler Blackcomb ski season opens Thursday

Sharpen your edges and wax that base — Whistler Blackcomb is opening for the 2023/24 season on Thursday.

Vail Resorts, the owner of North America’s biggest ski and snowboarding resort, says lifts on both Whistler and Blackcomb mountains will start spinning and hauling riders up at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 23.

While freezing levels have been up and over mid-mountain in recent days, the resort says it’s continuing to make snow “at every opportunity in the early season.” It adds as snowfall gets more consistent, it’ll open up more terrain across the mountains.

New for the season is the upgraded Fitzsimmons Express chairlift. What was previously a four-person chair has been updated with a high-speed eight-person chair — “the first of its kind across Vail resorts in North America.”

“It will cut back on wait times, improve uploading efficiency, and serve to significantly support Whistler Mountain Bike Park operations,” the resort said Tuesday.

Passes for opening day are on sale, and season passes, along with EDGE Cards, are still available to buy until Dec. 3.

A single-day adult pass for the resort ranges from $123 to $142, depending on the time of the season. Children aged 12 and under can ski or ride for $62 to $74 per single-day pass.
