Park Board extends Vancouver’s Bright Nights into new year

Did you miss out on snagging tickets to Vancouver’s return of the Stanley Park train? The Vancouver Park Board has a Christmas treat for you.

The Park Board says it’s extending the dates for Bright Nights into the new year due to overwhelming demand.

After more than 23,000 tickets for the event sold out in less than 90 minutes earlier this month, the Park Board says it’s releasing another 17,000 tickets for the event that will now finish on Jan. 6, 2024.

“The Bright Nights train is a highly sought-after attraction with limited tickets available, and guests are encouraged to secure their tickets in advance,” the Park Board said Wednesday.

The train — one locomotive and five carriages — passed a Technical Safety BC inspection this week, the Park Board says, and will officially start running on Thursday.

The extra tickets will go on sale at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 30.

“When the sale begins at 9 am, individuals who are in the waiting room will be randomly assigned a place in the purchasing queue. Those who join after the sale has started will be placed at the back of the line on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to customers already in the queue,” the Park Board explained.

This holiday season will mark the first in a while that families will be able to climb aboard the attraction, as the train hasn’t hit the tracks since 2019.

All proceeds from Bright Nights go to the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund, with the city describing this as the largest fundraiser for the organization.
