Boil water advisory in Hope lifted after E. coli outbreak

After almost two weeks under a boil water advisory, the District of Hope says the region’s water is now safe to use for all purposes again.

The advisory, lifted on Thursday, Nov. 30, went into effect on Nov. 17 after an E. coli outbreak was detected in the water supply for the area southwest of Kawkawa Lake.

The district at the time said the water in the affected area was not potable and the boil water advisory would remain in place until otherwise stated.

The district is now advising residents in the affected area to flush their water lines.

It says all residents and property owners should: flush all water-using fixtures for one minute; run cold-water faucets and drinking fountains for one minute before using the water; drain and flush all ice-making machines; run water softeners through a regeneration cycle; drain and refill hot water tanks set below 45 degrees; and change any pre-treatment filters you might find.

“The District of Hope sends its heartfelt gratitude to the entire community for its unwavering support, understanding, and invaluable feedback throughout this period,” the district said in a statement.

“Your cooperation has been instrumental, and we sincerely appreciate your patience as we worked diligently to ensure the safety of our water supply.”
