Fleeting chance of snow for parts of Metro Vancouver; ski hills to cash in

While the fog that has socked in parts of the Lower Mainland for a few days now is set to disappear Thursday, it could be replaced by some snow in parts of Metro Vancouver.

CityNews Meteorologist Michael Kuss says most parts of the region will be safe from the early blast of winter.

“When the precipitation begins this afternoon, the freezing level is likely to be as low as 500 metres, so that means there is potential there for even some mixed precipitation up at Burnaby Mountain and SFU,” he explained.

“It would be short-lived, but the big story is that we will see snow on the North Shore ski hills over the next three days

“It will be significant snow … 30 centimetres is not out of the question.”

However, Kuss says the snow on the peaks might not stick around, as the flurries are expected to change to rain next week.

“Unfortunately with a warm-up on the way Sunday into Monday, heavy rain is expected for early next week,” he said.
