Vancouver declares Little Mountain Sound Studios Day

The City of Vancouver has declared Dec. 19 as Little Mountain Sound Studios Day in honour of the famous recording studio where the likes of Aerosmith, Metallica, and Bon Jovi have produced albums.

Mayor Ken Sim and councillors have officially declared Dec. 19 as Little Mountain Sound Studios Day in Vancouver.

Founded in 1972, Little Mountain became an iconic hub for chart-topping recordings by bands like Aerosmith, Metallica, and Bon Jovi.

Sim says the studio is “a symbol of Vancouver’s ‘swagger’ in the world of music.”

“…We are proud to honour its contribution to the global music scene,” the mayor said in a statement.

“These recordings put us on the world stage, and this proclamation is a testament to the vibrancy that defined the rock sound of the late 1980s.”

Along with the proclamation, landmarks like City Hall, the Burrard Street Bridge, BC Place, and Science World will be lit up in gold and platinum Tuesday night to pay tribute to the studio and producers Bob Rock and Bruce Fairbairn.

Coun. Mike Klassen says the move is just one piece of the “city’s commitment to celebrating cultural heroes.”
