Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is urging people to plan ahead as it “is anticipating its busiest travel days for December this week.”
YVR says from Dec. 19 to and including Dec. 26, it is expecting 552,226 passengers to travel through the airport to 97 destinations domestically and internationally.
That’s close to 70,000 passengers each day, split between more than 269,000 arrivals and more than 282,300 departures.
The busiest of those days, the airport explains, is likely to be Friday, Dec. 22, with more than 74,500 passengers anticipated.
Christmas Day is expected to see 64,627 travevllers, while Boxing Day is set to bring about 68,364 travellers.
These estimates are still not what YVR saw in 2019, just before the pandemic began. During the week leading up to Christmas 2019, the airport says it saw, on average, 72,277 passengers each day for the same week, and a total of 578,217 for the eight-day period.
To help make it a smooth process, YVR is reminding travellers to confirm reservations with their airlines a few days before their trip and to check-in for flights online before coming to the airport, if possible.
