Stanley Park Bright Nights train cancelled Wednesday due to power outage

The Stanley Park Railway will not be running Wednesday night due to a power outage.

Organizers say the decision was made to “ensure the safety of our visitors.”

“All rides are cancelled, and the plaza area will also be closed,” the Stanley Park Railway said on social media Wednesday afternoon.

Organizers say ticketholders will automatically be refunded via their method of payment.

“We understand #BrightNightsYVR is a part of holidays for many people, and apologize for the disappointing news,” they added.

The event is expected to run as scheduled Thursday. However, ticketholders are being asked to check back to confirm.

This comes as the South Coast continues to be hit by rain and wind. A wind warning is up for parts of the Sunshine Coast and Vancouver Island.

Earlier this week, strong winds led to outages across the Lower Mainland, with trees and branches coming down on power lines.

Bright Nights is a popular holiday event across the region. The Vancouver Park Board announced late last month that it was extending the dates for the event into the new year due to overwhelming demand.

After more than 23,000 tickets for the event sold out in less than 90 minutes in early November, the Park Board released another 17,000 tickets for Bright Nights, which is now expected to wrap up on Jan. 6, 2024.
