Metro Vancouver’s road maintenance contractors said Sunday they have been out getting ready for the potential snowfall overnight.
Mainroad Lower Mainland Contracting says crews have been pre-treating roads and have activated the snow and ice program for the Port Mann bridge overnight.
The eastbound HOV lane will be closed from midnight Sunday into 2 p.m. Monday, and the westbound HOV lane may need to be closed as well.
Meanwhile, B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation warns drivers that the Alex Fraser Bridge may also see lane closures, if conditions warrant.
“Crews will be out in full force to plow, sand and salt roads as needed, with heavy wrecker tow trucks also ready as needed,” the ministry said.
Mainroad reminds drivers to be prepared for the weather.
“Winter weather is unpredictable; be prepared for changing road conditions and please drive to conditions,” the company said. “Ensure your vehicle is prepared with snow tires, a full tank of gas or a full charge, and an emergency kit.
Mainroad will be keeping up winter operations throughout the week with freezing temperatures expected in the Lower Mainland Thursday.
