British Columbians near some coastal areas are being warned of “significant waves” Tuesday morning, with a special weather statement in effect.
The advisory covers the shorelines near Boundary Bay within Metro Vancouver, as well as along the Strait of Juan de Fuca, including Sooke and Victoria, and the Southern Gulf Islands.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says during high tide, large waves are possible due to “gale-force southwest winds, storm surge, and seasonably high tides.”
“Coastal flooding is possible along exposed shorelines, especially in low-lying areas,” ECCC says in its statement, warning of elevated ocean water levels.
This comes as the west coast is being hit by a ridge of arctic cold, bringing with it snow to parts of the Lower Mainland and Interior later in the week.
