Work begins to repair HWY 17A overpass in Delta struck by truck

You might run into some delays on Highway 99 just south of the Massey Tunnel beginning Monday.

Crews are working to repair the damage to the Highway 17A overpass after it was struck by a truck carrying an overheight load last summer.

The impact from the incident damaged the concrete as well the the girders that support the structure.

Work to repair the overpass was slated to begin in November, however, after calls from the community, the repairs were pushed back to allow for uninterrupted travel during the holiday period.

The province says the job will take about three months, and to accommodate the rescheduling, the work will now be done over a 12-week period instead of the initial eight-week plan, to allow for winter weather.

Most of the closures will be from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m.
