Arctic outflow over Metro Vancouver could push wind chill down to -20C

Environment Canada has issued a rare arctic outflow warning for Metro Vancouver and surrounding areas, saying the wind chill value could dip down as low as -20 C this week.

Between Thursday night and Saturday afternoon, areas across Metro Vancouver, Greater Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, and the Southern Gulf Islands may see winds gusting up to 60 km/h.

The weather service is warning that the extreme cold means there could be a risk of frostbite and hypothermia, saying it can occur within minutes if adequate precautions aren’t taken when outdoors.

“Any skin exposure will result in frostbite. If outside, dress warmly in layers and stay dry. Cover as much exposed skin as possible to avoid frostbite.”

There is also a chance of flurries in Metro Vancouver tomorrow.
