Highway 91 through Richmond open after 25 car pileup

Highway 91 in Richmond is all clear after a multi-vehicle incident through the S-Curve — east of Nelson Road — blocked all lanes Thursday night.

Earlier reports from Lower Mainland District stated that 25 vehicles had been involved in the incident.

Three vehicles were towed away, and all other vehicles drove away on their own, according to a post on X from the Lower Mainland District.

The post said many vehicles had inadequate tread and the wrong type of tires.

Drivers took to social media during the backup, sharing they had been waiting for the roads to clear for more than two hours.

The massive crash comes as the Lower Mainland shivers its way through an arctic outflow warning.

Much of the province is under an outflow or extreme weather warning, with other parts of Northern B.C. and the Interior expected to have temperatures feel as cold as -55°.
