Murder of young Saanich realtor remains unsolved 16 years later

More than a decade after a 24-year-old real estate agent was killed while showing a home in Saanich, police say they still don’t have anyone in custody.

On Feb. 2, 2008, Lindsay Buziak was showing a $1 million property to, what she believed, were prospective buyers — a man and woman who had contacted her previously asking about the home.

Her body was later found, with multiple stab wounds on the second floor of 1702 De Sousa Place, which is in the community’s Gordon Head area.

“The Buziak homicide remains an open and active investigation,” said Saanich Police Insp. Damian Kowalewich in a statement to CityNews. “We have detectives assigned and working full-time on this case. All tips and leads continue to be investigated.”

“We also recognize and acknowledge the emotional toll this has had on Lindsay’s family and friends,” he adds.

At the time of her death, investigators believed Buziak had been lured to the home, but they never revealed a possible motive.

Three years ago, Saanich Police formed a task force with the help of both the RCMP and the FBI to bring renewed focus to the investigation and to use new DNA and genealogical technology, in hopes it would lead to a break in the case.

Every year, Buziak’s father, who lives in Calgary, returns to B.C. to hold the annual Lindsay Buziak Walk for Justice. He’s been openly critical of how authorities have handled the investigation.

Four years ago a woman in Indiana started a petition to help solve the murder. It was addressed to Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth.

In 2020, Jeff Buziak told CityNews he was proud people were stepping up to do something to get an arrest.

“I’ve said goodbye to my daughter. This is now a citizen thing. This is me saying I grew up in a country where there are laws and there’s supposed to be justice, and I’m not seeing that.”

Friday’s walk stretches from Saanich Municipal Hall and ends at the Legislature in Victoria.

The realtor’s killing has also made headlines across the U.S. Buziak’s father has appeared on Dr. Phil and Dateline picked up the story, as well.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Saanich Police at 250.475.4321 or the Greater Victoria Crimestoppers at 1.800.222.TIPS (8477).
