Don’t be alarmed, mains maintenance may change water colour in Metro Vancouver

The Metro Vancouver regional district is advising that people in the region may see their water turn a different colour as it undertakes maintenance on mains pipes.

The district says residents of Coquitlam, New Westminster, Delta, and Richmond may see “temporary water cloudiness.”

But don’t be alarmed, the district says it’s still perfectly potable.

“You can continue to use the water for cooking, cleaning, and drinking,” the regional district said in a social media post.

The MVRD has not specified how long the discoloration will last.

Editor’s note: This article has been updated to show residents of Vancouver aren’t expected to notice any water discoloration as a result of the work.
