B.C. Premier David Eby’s approval rating steady in election year: poll

The latest polling of Canada’s premiers shows B.C.’s David Eby is in pretty good shape in the lead up to the next provincial election.

Eby’s approval rating currently sits at 48 per cent, with the Angus Reid Institute saying “this proportion has remained unchanged for well over a year now.”

The pollster notes this latest review comes after his BC NDP government announced spending on housing and affordability relief measures in its 2024 budget, which has forecast a deficit of more than $7 billion.

His approval rating increased two per cent since December 2023.

Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew lead his counterparts in Canada with 63 per cent support, while Saskatchewan’s Scott Moe came in second at 53 per cent.

Eby is followed closely by Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, who held onto a 47 per cent approval rating, and Newfoundland and Labrador’s Premier Andrew Furey, also at 47 per cent.

The next B.C. election is slated for Oct. 19, 2024.
