The price at the pump around Metro Vancouver has passed the $2-mark for a litre of regular, as many experts have been predicting.
A litre of regular was going for $2.029 in parts of the region Wednesday, with other stations hovering around the same mark.
Analysts have said this rise was to be expected, as demand increases and warmer weather sets in.
“All of this is happening as we’re making the transition over to summer blends of gasoline. The Parkland Refinery has been down for the last couple of weeks but has been returned to service, so that has made a dent in the supply of that summer gasoline,” GasBuddy chief petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan said on March 14.

De Haan previously explained gas pries could even rise further, adding Metro Vancouver has the potential to see a litre of regular at $2.30 by May long weekend.
“We certainly could go up to about $2.25 or $2.30 a litre before all is said and done,” he said.
If there’s any good news, De Haan says prices could start to drop after the long weekend.
“Part of the problem right now is refineries have been doing this maintenance work, which has been limiting supply. But, once that work is done here in the next four to six weeks, we should start to see supply increasing and that should help prices start to moderate by May long,” he added.
