Taxi driver seriously hurt in Port Mann crash; WB slow

One person was taken to the hospital after a crash on the Port Mann Bridge Tuesday afternoon.

BC Highway Patrol says officers received reports of the crash in the westbound lanes around 1:40 p.m.

“A taxi collided with a roadwork truck that may be a Mainroads vehicle. There appears to have been only one occupant in the taxi, who was the driver. The driver has been extracted and suffered serious injuries. He has been transported to hospital,” said Corp. Melissa Jongema.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The collision, as well as a stall in the westbound lanes, contributed to major delays to start the afternoon commute.

As of 3:30 p.m., both had been cleared. However, westbound traffic was backed up to Golden Ears Way by 3:45 p.m.

Drivers can take the Pattullo Bridge as an alternate route.
