A man accused of fatally stabbing the father of a young child outside a Starbucks in downtown Vancouver last year is set to face court.
Inderdeep Singh Gosal is expected in court Monday to face charges of second-degree murder.
Gosal was arrested shortly after 37-year-old Paul Schmidt was stabbed outside the coffee shop at Granville and Pender streets in late March 2023.
Despite first responders administering first aid, Schmidt died after he was rushed to the hospital.
The daylight stabbing was witnessed by dozens of bystanders, with video of the incident widely shared online.
The graphic footage showed some onlookers going about their business instead of rushing to Schmidt’s aid as he fell to the ground.
Schmidt’s wife and young daughter were reportedly at the scene as the violence unfolded.
Police previously stated they didn’t believe Schmidt and the suspect knew each other.
The allegations have not yet been proven in court.
