Burgess Creek wildfire still growing, out of control

By The Canadian Press

The BC Wildfire Service says the Burgess Creek wildfire is still out of control despite suppression efforts.

The fire, about 600 kilometres north of Vancouver, has grown to 1,800 hectares. BC Wildfire says crews, aircraft and heavy equipment are on site and responding “as required.”

The Cariboo Regional District issued an evacuation alert Sunday evening, warning residents to be ready to leave on short notice.

Environment Canada has issued a special air quality advisory for parts of the Cariboo region close to the wildfire including Quesnel, noting smoky conditions are likely in the area over the next 48 hours
