Canada’s largest marathon is taking place around Vancouver Sunday, and drivers around the city may run up against a challenge.
Expect to see road closures related to the BMO Marathon affecting traffic in the Riley Park, South Cambie, Oakridge, Fairview, Kerrisdale, Dunbar, UBC, Point Grey, Kitsilano, West End, Coal Harbour, Chinatown, Yaletown, Cambie, False Creek, and downtown neighbourhoods.
The delays are expected to last until about 1 p.m. in most areas, but some closures will last until 8 p.m.
For information on the route and a list of detours, drivers can check out the BMO Vancouver Marathon website.
The event has around 22,000 runners heading from Queen Elizabeth Park to UBC to downtown and around Stanley Park, ending on Georgia Street.
Half marathon runners started at 7 a.m., while full marathoners began at 8:30 a.m.
The event also has an 8KM race and a kids’ race, with the youngsters running around Stanley Park’s Lost Lagoon.
