Man dead after shooting in Maple Ridge

A man has died after a shooting in Maple Ridge, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says.

Police responded to reports of a shooting Friday just after 5 p.m. in the area of 223 Street and Lougheed Highway. A man was found at the scene suffering from life-threatening injuries and later died.

According to IHIT, witnesses reported seeing a man fleeing the area.

“Investigators will remain in the area canvassing for witnesses and collecting security camera footage,” says IHIT’s Sgt. Timothy Pierotti.

“We are asking any witnesses or anyone with dash-camera footage from the area to contact IHIT immediately.”

The victim’s name is not being released right away to allow time to notify his family.

The area remains closed several hours after the incident.

The incident appears to be isolated with no ongoing risk to the public, police say.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have any information or dash cam footage from the area between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. is asked to call the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
