Section of Highway 99 closing overnight Sunday

Heads up to anyone planning to use Highway 99 through Richmond overnight Sunday: a section of the highway will be closing in both directions at the Steveston Interchange.

The closure is scheduled to start at 11 p.m. and the road will re-open Monday at 5 a.m.

“The closure is needed to lift concrete girders into place to form part of the new five-lane Steveston Interchange spanning Highway 99,” the Ministry of Transportation said.

“This is a continuation of work that required closures overnight Friday and Saturday.”

Traffic will be detoured using the Steveston on- and off-ramps, and drivers may see minor delays, the ministry says.

Normal counterflow operations will be in place at the Massey Tunnel Monday.

Future closures will be required to complete the girder installation, but the specific dates for this work have not been announced.
