1 dead, 2 critical after Abbotsford house fire

A fire ripped though a home in Abbotsford Thursday morning. One person has died and two others remain in critical condition.

A devastating early morning house fire in Abbotsford has killed at least one person, the BC Coroners Service has confirmed, with another two people in critical condition.

The fire broke out at the house near Pineview Avenue and Parkview Street in the city’s Clearbrook neighbourhood before 6 a.m.

In a statement to CityNews, the City of Abbotsford shared that its Fire Rescue Services (AFRS) was called to the fire after reports of “people inside.”

“Crews arrived to find a large volume of smoke and fire coming from the back of the house,” the city said.

“Crews were able to pull all six occupants out from inside the home, who were placed in the care of BC Ambulance Service and will be receiving assistance from Emergency Support Services.”

The fire was knocked down, the city explains, and “all other buildings were protected. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.”

The city added two occupants of the house were taken to hospital and are now in critical care.

In a statement, BC EHS says multiple paramedics responded to the blaze, with an air ambulance on standby.

“Paramedics provided emergency medical care to 6 patients. Three patients were transported by ground ambulance to hospital. An additional two patients received care and assessment from paramedics at the scene but declined hospital transport,” said paramedic Public Information Officer Brian Twaites.

The Coroners Service tells CityNews it is currently investigating the fatality.
