Auto dealerships still navigating disruptions amid cyberattack restoration efforts

Thousands of auto dealerships across North America continue to grapple with delays after a series of cyberattacks last week.

CDK Global, the company targeted, provides vital sales software for dealers that is widely used throughout Canada and the United States.

In a Saturday update, a spokesperson for CDK told CityNews that it has “begun the restoration process.” Adding it expects the process “will take several days to complete.”

CDK’s systems have been offline since Wednesday after the company experienced back-to-back cyberattacks.

The outage has forced thousands of dealers to revert to traditional pen-and-paper methods in order to conduct business.

Last week a local car dealer told CityNews that they were informed the systems could be back online as early as Tuesday, highlighting that the disruptions are creating a “huge insecurity” with customers.

CDK serves more than 15,000 retail locations across North America, according to the company.
