Car crash bystanders hit after SUV mounts sidewalk, Richmond RCMP investigating

The Richmond RCMP says it’s investigating a collision between two cars that ended up with one mounting the sidewalk and striking nearby bystanders.

Mounties say officers were called to the intersection of No. 4 and Williams roads to a “two-vehicle collision involving three pedestrians” around 1:20 p.m. on June 22.

Police explain a great Toyota Tundra was heading south along No. 4 Road when, on a green light, it was hit by a black Ford Edge.

“The Edge subsequently mounted the sidewalk and struck two of the three pedestrians who were on it,” Corp. Adriana O’Malley shared Wednesday.

“The two pedestrians suffered significant injuries and were transported to a local area hospital for treatment. One pedestrian has since been released from hospital with injuries to the foot, leg, and abdomen. The other pedestrian still remains in hospital,” O’Malley explained.

Both drivers remained at the scene of the crash, Mounties say, and their initial investigations believe impairment is not considered to be a factor.

Anyone who witnessed or has dashcam footage of the incident is being urged to contact the Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212.
