7-year-old injured in Coquitlam hit-and-run: RCMP

A 7-year-old child was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the RCMP says, after they were hit by a driver in an SUV in Port Coquitlam at the end of last month.

The Coquitlam RCMP says the incident happened on Sunday, June 23, just before 4 p.m. in an alley north of Coquitlam Avenue near Wellington Street.

Mounties say officers were told the alleged vehicle and driver of a grey Jeep Cherokee had fled the scene. Officers later located the vehicle and the driver near Pinetree Way and Guildford Way in Coquitlam.

“We would like to thank the initial witnesses who came to the aid of the child and provided critical information to our responding officers,” said Corp. Alexa Hodgins.

Mounties are now releasing footage of the incident in hopes the public can help piece together the timeline of events.

“We are asking anyone who may have witnessed a 2016 grey Jeep Cherokee driving between 3:45 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2024, to contact the Coquitlam RCMP and quote file number 2024-16039,” Hodgins added.
