The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is asking for the public’s help to find a “person of interest” who may have “critical information” about a fatal shooting in Maple Ridge earlier this year.
The Lower Mainland’s homicide team says it’s sharing photos of the man taken shortly before the killing took place in hopes someone might recognize him.
Previously, the Ridge Meadows RCMP said it responded to reports of the shooting in the area of 122 Street and 123 Avenue in Maple Ridge just after 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 20.
When police arrived, they saw two vehicles that had been involved in a collision. The driver of one of the vehicles was suffering from gunshot wounds.
At the time, the Ridge Meadows RCMP said it appeared the incident was targeted. Shortly after police received calls about the shooting, officers then received reports of a vehicle on fire in the area of 208 Street and 123 Avenue. It’s believed those two cases are linked.
On Jan. 25, the victim — an 18-year-old — died in hospital from his injuries, and IHIT took over the investigation.
In an update Friday, IHIT says the man they’re wanting to speak to is in his 20s, and has light brown hair and brown eyes.
Before the time of the shooting, he was in a store in Mission, wearing a blue surgical mask, a Vans “Get out and get lost” hoodie, and black pants with a red accent on the left leg.
“We’re asking for the public’s assistance in identifying this individual, who we believe has critical information that can help further our investigation,” said Sgt. Timothy Pierotti.
“Six months ago, an 18-year-old boy was killed. IHIT remains dedicated to bringing justice for his family and the community.”
IHIT is urging anyone who has information about the shooting or can identify the person of interest to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
