1 person airlifted to hospital after crash east of Agassiz: BCEHS

One person was airlifted to the hospital and a section of Lougheed Highway was closed Tuesday after a serious crash east of Agassiz.

The Agassiz RCMP says the highway was closed to traffic in both directions from Maria Lane to Lophet Road as it investigated the circumstances around the crash, which happened just before 3:30 a.m.



“We are in the initial stages of evidence-gathering and working hard to determine the cause. The 8100 block of Lougheed Highway is expected to be closed until 6:00 p.m., on July 9, 2023,” said Sgt. Andy Lot a detachment commander with the Agassiz RCMP.

The Lougheed Highway reopened around 5:30 p.m.

BC Emergency Health Services tells CityNews it responded with six ambulances, a supervisor, and an air ambulance,

“Paramedics provided emergency medical care to one patient who was transported by air ambulance to hospital. Another patient was assessed at the scene but not transported to hospital,” said Public Information Officer Rachelle Bown.

Police are asking any witnesses or anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area, captured between 3 a.m. and 3:45 a.m., to contact the RCMP at 604-796-2211.
