One person dead after early-morning crash in Surrey Sunday

One person is dead after an early-morning collision in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood Sunday, the RCMP says.
Just after 4:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash on 144th Street near 62nd Avenue.
The person was declared dead at the scene, despite lifesaving efforts.
Police closed 144th Street both north and southbound between 63 A Avenue and 61 A Avenue.
“Traffic in the surrounding areas has been impacted and drivers can expect significant delays,” the Surrey RCMP said.
“The closure will remain in effect for an undetermined amount of time while investigators process the scene.”
CityNews has learned the road is expected to remain closed until 3 p.m.
Anyone who witnessed the accident or may have dashcam footage is asked to call the RCMP at 604-599-0502.
The investigation is in its early stages.
