City of Revelstoke issues an evacuation alert due to wildfire activity

The City of Revelstoke is issuing an evacuation alert due to a wildfire in the vicinity of Alpha Creek.

The alert has been issued for the north end of Armstrong Lake to Trout Lake, and Trout Lake up Lardeau Creek to Cup Creek. This includes Ferguson and Five Mile, and CM Galena.

The city says the alert is issued because of the health, safety and welfare of people in the areas.

People who are on evacuation alert are told to prepare to leave their homes at a moment’s notice, should conditions worsen.

“Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible before evacuation is ordered; however, you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions,” the city said.

The wildfire in the vicinity of Alpha Creek was first discovered on Thurs. July 18. It is “out-of-control” and burning at a size of 162 hectares as of Mon. July 22, according to BC Wildfire Services. The suspected cause is lightning.
