IHIT renews appeal for information 8 years after fatal Surrey shooting

Homicide investigators are hoping to jog some memories, eight years after two men were shot in Surrey in a potential case of mistaken identity.
On July 23, 2016, police were called to the area of 90A Avenue and 142A Street where they found the pair with gunshot wounds.
One of the men — 28-year-old Jatinder Michael Sandhu — was rushed to hospital and later died of his injuries while the second victim survived.
Police don’t believe Sandhu or the other victim were the intended targets of what appears to have been a gang-related shooting.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) notes neither of the men had criminal records.
“There are persons out there with key information that can help solve this case and bring closure to Michael’s family,” said Staff Sgt. David Lee. “Time passes, situations change, perhaps now is the time to come forward.”
IHIT says Sandhu’s family is remembering the man as “the eldest brother of three siblings, a beloved son, with a heart of gold.”
