The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says it is investigating a homicide after a shooting in the city’s Sunset neighbourhood Friday evening.
Police say they were called to East 63rd Avenue and Inverness Street shortly before 9 p.m. after receiving reports of two men being shot in a vehicle, which then crashed into two other vehicles.
One of the two men — 25-year-old Hitkaran Johal — died at the scene of the collision.
The second man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The VPD says that shortly after the shooting, a vehicle was set on fire near East 63rd Avenue and Prince Edward Street.
They are investigating whether or not this is connected to the shooting.
CityNews received several calls Friday with reports of multiple emergency vehicles seen in the area of Marine Drive and Fraser Street.
Police say the incident appears to have been targeted with no risk to the public.
Video from Citytv’s Kier Junos shows police tape around the area.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information is asked to call VPD’s Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500.
