Heat ramping up for long weekend across B.C.’s South Coast

Just in time for the long weekend, it’s about to heat up around Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
“The heat is coming back,” 1130 NewsRadio Meteorologist Michael Kuss said Thursday. “It’s been a while. It was almost two weeks ago that we had temperatures over 30 degrees in Abbotsford and over 25 at YVR, close to the coast.”
“The stretch we will get starting today could last seven plus days, where temperatures will be in that 25- to 30-degree range and no sign of precipitation through that entire stretch,” he said.
Kuss explains the second half of July was mostly seasonal, with temperatures close to the long-term average for the month.
“That little bit of precipitation certainly helped, as well, over the last three days, but things have changed now that we’re into August,” he said.
“It’s hot and dry, and this is going to be a week plus where we won’t see any precipitation across the South Coast.
“Temperatures will be soaring back to above 29, 30 degrees for a good chunk of the Lower Mainland through that run,” Kuss added.
Away from the shoreline, temperatures will soar into the mid-30s, Kuss says.
“Today, into the mid-30s, at least into the Interior, and no sign of rain. There’s lots of heat all the way, not just through the weekend, but it looks like for most, if not all, of next week as well.”
