Mounties investigating stranger sexual assault in South Surrey

Mounties in Surrey say they are investigating a sexual assault by a stranger in the South Surrey area.

Just after 8 a.m. Wednesday, police say they were called to a community rec centre on 24th Avenue near 168th Street.

The victim reported that she was confronted by an unknown man inside an accessible washroom at the centre.

The man allegedly assaulted and groped her before leaving the stall.

“The brazen nature of this incident is extremely concerning,” says Cpl. Sarbjit K. Sangha, media relations officer for the Surrey RCMP.

The suspect is described as having a medium build and was wearing a grey shirt, black shorts, and a black hat.

Police say they are canvassing CCTV footage in the area.

Anyone who was in the area on Wednesday between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and may have seen or heard anything suspicious is being asked to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 and quote file 2024-112116.
