North Shore Rescue helps hiker who had fallen 50 feet off trail

North Shore Rescue (NSR) says it was called by Lions Bay Search and Rescue (LB SAR) Saturday evening to help rescue a hiker who was injured after falling 50 feet down a bank off the trail.

The service used a Talon helicopter to reach the hiker.

“3 techs, including two ER physicians, were inserted above the subject via long line,” NSR said on social media.

“LB SAR members who were already on scene had set up a hand line, accessed the subject, and provided initial first aid.”

The hiker was given further first aid, put in a stretcher, and lifted out and handed over to BC Emergency Health Services.

The service says LB SAR then responded to a second call, which led them to be out all night assisting a lost hiker on Unnecessary Mountain, also close to Lions Bay.
