Health authority issues toxic drug alert for Dawson Creek

The health authority for the northern half of British Columbia is issuing a warning to illicit drug users.

A chunky purple drug known on the streets as “side” has been linked to an increase in overdoses in Dawson Creek, Northern Health said.

“This drug causes sudden overdose when smoked,” the warning says.

“It has taken multiple doses of naloxone to reverse.”

Northern Health reminds people not to use alone and avoid mixing drugs. As well, it recommends that people get overdose training, carry naloxone, and call 911 right away if someone overdoses.
