Fatal Abbotsford crash kills pickup driver

A serious crash in Abbotsford Friday morning killed one person, the Abbotsford Police Department says.
Just before 7 a.m., police received reports of a crash at the Mt. Lehman Road and Marshall Road Extension intersection.
“Upon arrival, officers located a pickup truck in a ditch. The driver and sole occupant, identified as a 42-year-old male, appeared to have sustained life-threatening injuries,” AbbyPD said in a statement.
“Despite immediate efforts by first responders, the individual unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.”
Speaking to 1130 NewsRadio, Const. Art Stele says it’s too early in the investigation to determine whether speed, alcohol, or drugs may have been a factor in the cause of the crash.
“This has been a very fatal year and summer for road accidents in B.C.,” he said. “We want to urge the public to highly, highly take into consideration safe driving practices — patience, speed, all those factors.”
“Anytime this kind of situation ends up in a fatality, it is very tragic. It is something that cannot be reversed,” he added.
“Incidents such as this are tragic. We know that road safety is shared responsibility, and it’s not just on us and on our first responder partners, but we ask a collaborative effort of our community and the motorists to practice safe driving.”
Police remain on scene investigating the circumstances around the crash. Marshall Road Extension, between Peardonville Road and Mt. Lehman Road, is closed to traffic while AbbyPD officers and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (I.C.A.R.S), gather evidence.
