Seaplane makes emergency landing near Bowen Island

Seaplane airliner Harbour Air says one of its aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing during a scheduled flight from Vancouver to Comox Friday morning.

The plane reportedly experienced an oil pressure warning and the crew elected to land on the waters of Snug Cove off Bowen Island around 8 a.m.

“All guests were safely transferred to a Coast Guard vessel, and no injuries have been reported,” Harbour Air said in a statement to 1130 NewsRadio.

In a statement, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre shared that the Canadian Coast Guard Hovercraft Moytel, CCGS Laredo Sound, as well as Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) Kitsilano One were deployed to Bowen Island.

“After arriving on scene at 8:46 PDT, all ten passengers onboard the aircraft were brought onboard CCGS Laredo Sound and travelled back to Coal Harbour,” the JRCC said.

“The aircraft was towed back to land at 10:05. There are no reported injuries and all assets have been stood down.”

Harbour Air says a replacement aircraft has been made available, and no more disruptions are expected.
