Police in New Westminster say two people have been charged in connection to an alleged kidnapping last month.

The New Westminster Police Department says the two people, a 45-year-old and a 38-year-old, allegedly kidnapped the victim near Hyack Square along Front Street in the early hours of Aug. 17.

NWPD says with the help of multiple other policing agencies in the Lower Mainland, the victim was found within 24 hours and taken to hospital for medical care.

“We were deeply worried about this person’s safety,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver, “Time is of the essence in kidnapping investigations, and thanks to the hard work and expertise of numerous police teams, we were able to find the victim and arrest the suspects.”

The two suspects are now facing assault-related charges.

NWPD is now urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward to police. “If you saw anything suspicious from that evening and you haven’t spoken to police about what you saw you can call the Major Crime Unit at 604-529-2430 or send an email to mcucrimetips@nwpolice.org.”

Both suspects remain in custody, police say.
