New West police arrest 2 following ‘unprovoked’ stabbing

Police in New Westminster say two people have been arrested and charged after a “senseless and unprovoked attack by a stranger” left a man with major abdominal injuries.

The incident happened on July 30, police say, when around 10 p.m., NWPD officers were flagged down after reports of someone suffering from a significant stab wound.

Police say the victim was given emergency first aid and then taken to hospital.

The NWPD says two men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested on Aug. 29 in connection to the stabbing. They have both been charged with assault-related offences.

“A man was seriously hurt in a senseless and unprovoked attack by a stranger,” Sgt. Andrew Leaver said. “Our officers have worked tirelessly to gather evidence and identify those responsible.”

Police say the two suspects remain in custody awaiting their next court appearance.
