Motorcyclist killed in Langley crash

A serious crash in Langley Tuesday night killed a motorcyclist, the Langley RCMP says.

Sgt. Joe Leeson explained to 1130 NewsRadio that the collision happened near the intersection of 268 Street and Fraser Highway around 7:30 p.m.

In a statement Wednesday morning, Corp. Craig van Herk shared that officers’ initial investigation indicates that the driver of a Dodge pickup truck was stopped in the centre lane of the Fraser Highway, waiting to take a left turn.

“A motorcycle, travelling west on Fraser collided with the front of the truck. Several bystanders and witnesses immediately began first aid on the driver of the motorcycle,” van Herk explained.

“Unfortunately, the driver of the motorcycle, a 22-year-old Abbotsford man, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.”

Mounties say the driver of the truck stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police.

Drivers were advised to take a detour on Old Yale Road around the site of the collision while first responders were on the scene. The highway reopened early Wednesday morning.

The RCMP says the investigation is still active and in its early stages.

“We called in ICARS to the scene and our investigators are still speaking with witnesses, reviewing their statements and obtaining dash cam and video surveillance from the area for review,” van Herk said in a response to the claim.

“Although we have had several witnesses that observed the vehicles before and during the collision already speak to officers, there may be others still out there.”

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or captured dashcam footage to contact the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
