Burnaby Fire says a family has been displaced after a home in the Metrotown area caught fire Saturday.
Crews were called to a duplex on Burns Place near Kisbey Avenue just before 2 p.m., Assistant Fire Chief Derek Masaro tells 1130 NewsRadio.
“It was one side of a duplex, started on the second floor in the back, one of the back bedrooms, got into the attic space on the one side,” Masaro said.
“We kept the fire to the one side of the duplex.”
He says the resident on one side of the duplex is just going to be out for the day as the smoke clears out, but the displaced family’s side was not spared.
“The other side is going to be a writeoff, because the roof has partially collapsed,” he said.
Masaro says the fire burned into the attic and right through the roof, so there was a fair amount of black smoke in the area.
The blaze was knocked down by shortly after 3 p.m. No injuries have been reported, and no nearby homes were damaged.
The cause of the fire will be investigated, Masaro said.
