A barn full of vehicles went up in flames overnight in Surrey.
Assistant chief of operations at the Surrey Fire Service Mike McNamara tells 1130 NewsRadio that when crews got to the fire on 176th Street, the structure was fully engulfed.
“It appeared on the inside, there were a few vehicles. It was either an auto body-type shop or somebody storing vehicles,” McNamara shared.

“When firefighters responded, they surrounded the building, and made sure they protected any exposures so the fire didn’t spread and just contained the fire to where it was,” McNamara added.
While he’s unsure what kind of cars were in the building, McNamara says it’s likely they were all damaged.
There are no reports of injuries and the cause is currently under investigation, he added.
In a statement from the Surrey RCMP, officers were also on scene helping the Fire Service with the barn fire, “which was also used for storing some vehicles. Surrey RCMP will continue to be on scene as the incident will be assessed by the Surrey Fire Investigator.”
Fire crews had 176th Street between 8th and 16th avenues closed as they mopped up the area. The road reopened to traffic just after 7 a.m.
