1 dead in float plane crash north of Vancouver Island

Vancouver Island police and others are investigating after a deadly float plane crash Wednesday evening.

The Port Hardy RCMP says the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre reported the crash near Warner Bay, Seymour Inlet around 7:50 p.m. on Oct. 2.

Mounties say their Search and Rescue and Tactical Recce and Recovery Unit attended the scene and “recovered” the three occupants of the plane, one of whom was already dead.

“Port Hardy RCMP is working closely with Transport Safety Board and BC Coroners Service,” Mounties said in a release Thursday.

They say the cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

Police say the Underwater Recovery Team and West Coast Marine Services have also been called in to support the investigation.
