Victim’s family remembers ‘kindest soul’ after woman charged in East Vancouver fatal stabbing

The family of a fatal stabbing victim remembers him as the “kindest soul” and uncle, always putting others before himself.

A woman is facing murder charges in relation to a fatal stabbing in East Vancouver on Thursday.

The Vancouver Police Department said the homicide happened just after midnight at a home near Kingsway and Melbourne Street, just west of Boundary Road.

The victim, Brian Mathew Clayton, died of his injuries before being taken to hospital, police explained.

In a statement to CityNews, Clayton’s brother Mark Clayton says the family is devastated by the loss. He says Brian was the “kindest soul” and uncle, always putting others before himself.

“He brought boundless joy and love to his niece and nephews. His infectious smile and generous heart touched everyone he met,” said Mark.

“We cherish memories of his unwavering dedication to family, his unrelenting optimism, and his unconditional love. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness, compassion, and laughter will live on through us.”

Mark says the family is asking for privacy during the difficult time of mourning, but appreciates the support from the community.

On Thursday, a 27-year-old woman was arrested and held in custody. On Friday, police explained Dolly Patricia Capoose has been charged with second-degree murder in relation to the death.

Police believe Brian Clayton and Capoose knew each other.

Capoose remains in custody awaiting court. Vancouver Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact its homicide team at 604-717-2500, as officers continue to investigate.
