80 claims filed following B.C.’s extreme weather: ICBC

A three-day atmospheric river that broke rainfall records in B.C.’s South Coast and caused damaging flash floods also put ICBC to work Monday.

In an email to 1130 NewsRadio, ICBC says that as of 11 a.m. Monday morning it had received 80 claims related to vehicle water damage since Friday.

ICBC says it is too early to determine the costs associated with the claims.

“A vehicle damaged by rising water is covered with optional insurance coverage. Depending on the circumstances involved, comprehensive, specified perils or collision coverage may apply,” it said.

These coverages are available from ICBC or private insurers. It says more information about the different kinds of coverage can be found here: Comprehensive, Specified Perils, and Collision.

ICBC also says they have information on how to stay safe in floods and on flood-damaged vehicles on their website that can be helpful for the public.
