Police seek witnesses after 66-year-old man killed in hit-and-run on Surrey road

A section of Highway 15 in Surrey was closed for several hours due to a fatal hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian Thursday afternoon.

BC Emergency Health Services says it first received a call at 5:04 p.m. Thursday.

In an update Friday morning, the Surrey RCMP confirmed that the pedestrian, a man, had died.

“Police, Paramedics and Surrey Fire Service attended the scene and located the one male deceased,” Mounties said.

In another update at noon, Mounties say they are investigating the incident as a hit-and-run.

“Officers believe a 66-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that was driving southbound on 176th Street in the area of 26th Avenue. The suspect vehicle did not remain on scene.”

Police say the investigation is its early stages, and the cause of the collision has not yet been determined.

Anyone who was in the area and witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.

DriveBC reported that the highway cleared around 11:30 p.m.
