City of Vancouver adds shelter spaces due to extreme weather alert

The City of Vancouver says it has added shelter spaces Saturday and Sunday due to an extreme weather alert for cold temperatures.

The Homelessness Services Association of BC (HSABC) says temperatures through the weekend will feel as though they are at or below 0 C.

Extra shelter space will be open at:

  • Directions Youth Services Centre, 1138 Burrard Street. Pets accepted up to a limit of four animals in the shelter.
  • Aboriginal Front door, 390 Main Street. Drinks and snacks served. No pets.
  • The Salvation Army Belkin House, 555 Homer Street. Breakfast served. No pets.
  • OPS Overnight EWR (Extreme Weather Response) Shelter, 141 East Hastings. Coffee, snacks, and transit passes can be provided. Pets allowed.
  • Commercial-Hastings EWR, 1726 East Hastings. Snacks served. No pets.
  • Kiwassa Neighbourhood House EWR Shelter, 2425 Oxford Street. Dinner, breakfast, and snacks served. Pets allowed.
  • Marpole Neighbourhood House EWR Shelter, 8585 Hudson Street. Dinner, breakfast, and snacks served. No pets.

These are in addition to the permanent shelters available year-round.
