The Burnaby RCMP says it is working to identify the suspects in a bear spray incident that shut down part of Metrotown mall on Friday.
Police say they got reports of a group of youth getting into an “altercation” outside the north side of the mall around 7:45 p.m.
“It was reported that bear spray was deployed,” Corp. Mike Kalanj told 1130 NewsRadio.
“Several bystanders were affected by the bear spray deployment.”
When police arrived, the youths had left the area.
Metrotown’s security team is going to provide Mounties with CCTV footage of the incident, Kalanj said.
The investigation is ongoing.
This is not the first incident involving bear spray at Metrotown.
On March 4, the Burnaby RCMP said it responded to a report of a fight in the mall during which several teens involved reportedly deployed bear spray. The police have not said whether or not there is any connection between this fight and the one that took place Friday.
