Driver dead after multi-vehicle crash on Pattullo Bridge

By 1130 NewsRadio Staff

The Patullo Bridge, which connects Surrey to New Westminster, was closed in both directions after a fatal five-vehicle crash on Sunday.

Surrey Police Service (SPS) Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton says crews were called to reports of the crash — which included a bus — on the east end of the bridge around 8:30 a.m.

“Sadly, Surrey Fire Service and BCEHS administered life-saving measures to one adult female driver, but she passed away at the scene,” Houghton told 1130 NewsRadio.

“We do know there are other injuries to other drivers and passengers and some of the other vehicles but at this early stage, the extent of those injuries is unknown.”

The cause of the collision is also still under investigation.

The Patullo Bridge remained closed to traffic as they worked at the scene. All lanes reopened to traffic around 7 p.m.

The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) and the RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation team have been called in.

1130 NewsRadio has reached out to BCEHS for more details.
